Moving landing: Lowcountry boat landing in another county

The Associated Press//May 5, 2016//

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – It seems Dorchester County has lost a boat landing.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that Dorchester County officials were told May 2 that Bulow Landing is not in the county.

Instead, state officials say the landing in the middle of a former rice plantation straddling the county line is in Charleston County.

The landing has been the subject of ownership disputes in the past. In recent years a developer put a gate across the road leading to the landing because of problems with loud parties there.

Charleston County officials said he couldn’t bock the road because it was in Charleston County. Now, it turns out, both the road and the landing are in Charleston county.

Officials say the only road to the public landing cannot be blocked.
