DAVIDSON — The town of Davidson is accepting bids for a $76,000 pedestrian bridge it wants built across a pond at the entrance to its downtown, a town spokeswoman said.

The town has given the green light to the bridge, which will be partially funded with $25,000 from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, a nonprofit arm of the Mooresville-based building-supply retail giant. The rest of the funding is coming from the town, spokeswoman Cristina Shaul said.

The Charlotte office of St. Louis-based architecture firm  has designed the bridge, which will be low enough to give traffic on Griffith Street approaching and leaving Main Street a better view of the pond. The bridge will also feature a bump-out for viewing.

Bids are being accepted immediately and can be submitted to Doug Wright, public works manager for the town, at [email protected] or (704) 892-7591.
