Adjustments support growing demand and help maintain predictable travel times for drivers
Staff Report//July 2, 2026//
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) is adjusting select toll rates for the I‑485 Express Lanes to help maintain reliable and predictable travel times as demand continues to grow.
Beginning June 29, NCTA will implement limited toll rate changes in five segments of the I-485 Express Lanes during peak travel times. In lower-demand areas and times, some rates will be reduced to better balance traffic flow along the corridor. In higher-demand areas and times, some rates will increase by no more than $0.25 per segment.
Since opening in late February 2026, the I‑485 Express Lanes have seen over 750,000 total trips taken. As demand has increased during peak travel periods, these targeted adjustments will help keep traffic moving and preserve the level of reliability drivers expect.
The NC Quick Pass toll rate calculator has been updated to reflect the adjustments so customers can review estimated tolls before they travel. As NCTA continues to gather traffic data, additional adjustments may be needed based on current traffic demand trends.
NCTA remains committed to monitoring traffic conditions and making data-driven decisions that support reliable travel and improve the driving experience along the corridor.
