Drivers are encouraged to share their experiences and priorities through the I-77 South Express Lanes community survey launched by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) as part of ongoing efforts to use public feedback and engagement to help shape the project.
I-77 South is one of the most heavily traveled and congested corridors in the state and experiences an average of 5 to 6 crashes every day, over 2.8 times higher than the statewide average for urban interstates. The I-77 South Express Lanes Project has been a local priority for decades designed to improve safety and travel reliability along I-77 from I-277 / NC 16 (Brookshire Freeway) to the SC state line.
Public input plays an important role in shaping the project. NCDOT is asking commuters, residents, and stakeholders to participate in the survey to help inform project development. The survey is available online or in person at the Community Engagement Center located at 1023 W. Morehead St. Suite 150 Charlotte, NC 28208.
Community Engagement Center Marks 30 Days
As a key part of NCDOT’s outreach efforts, the Community Engagement Center (CEC) has been open for 30 days, providing a space for the public to learn more about the project, community priorities, review preliminary design maps, and speak directly with project representatives.
Since opening on March 30th, the community engagement team has hosted more than 150 visitors. NCDOT encourages residents to stay engaged by participating in one of the upcoming sessions:
