Brewery expansion among approved rezonings

The Charlotte City Council on Monday approved a that will allow The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery LLC to expand, including the construction of a 52,200-square-foot “biergarten” with outdoor dining and gathering space.

The company sought a rezoning for 9.5 acres on the east side of South Tryon Street between Yancey Road and East Peterson Drive. The brewery plans to keep two existing buildings, measuring 29,083 and 37,704 square feet, and add the biergarten and possibly a future 13,400-square-foot manufacturing and office building facing South Tryon Street.

The land near the Scaleybark Transit Station on the Lynx Blue Line light rail was rezoned to transit supportive general industrial with optional provisions from general industrial. The council’s Zoning Committee recommended approval by a 5-0 vote, and the planning staff also recommended approval.

In other actions, the council approved:

*The Drakeford Co.’s request for conditional mixed-use zoning on .5 acres at Central and Chatham avenues in Plaza Midwood to build 12 single-family attached units on the site of Pass Time Billiards and Lounge.

*Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership Inc.’s rezoning request for the second phase of the O’Dillon Lakes development, which was approved in 2015. Two parcels totaling 5.6 acres were rezoned to conditional urban residential. On 2.7 acres on the west side of Statesville Road between Cindy Lane and Cochrane Drive, the rezoning from single-family residential will allow up to 150 multifamily units. On the remaining 2.9 acres on the east side of Meadow Knoll Drive and the north side of Cindy Lane, the rezoning from mixed use, innovative will allow CMHP to build up to 120 units, including a mixture of single-family detached, duplexes, triplexes and quadraplexes and a maximum of 110 age-restricted multifamily units. The entire development could include up to 750 units of different types on 64.33 acres.

*The Berry Co. LLC’s request for an optional mixed-use development zoning on 0.8 acres on the east side of Johnston Road between Pineville-Matthews Road and Walsh Boulevard for a multilevel climate-controlled storage building designed to resemble an office building.

*Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department’s request for a rezoning of .08 acres on the south side of Baxter Street between Queens Road and Eli Street, from single-family residential to multifamily residential. The land is part of a larger .47-acre parcel on which multifamily housing will be built.

*JRE Real Estate LLC’s rezoning request for about 3 acres on the east side of Statesville Road between Reames Road and Metromont Parkway, from light industrial to general industrial, for a planned warehouse.

*Anointed Future Daycare’s request for a rezoning to conditional institutional for a day care. The rezoning is for 1.8 acres on the south side of Hickory Grove Road between Craigwood Drive and McAlpine Lane. The land had been zoned single-family residential.
