Nonprofit organization Veteran’s Path Up has given the keys to a freshly remodeled home in the Druid Hills neighborhood to a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Willy Davis, who served in the U.S. Army, moved into the Norris Avenue residence after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 29.

“[Veterans] can get help, but sometimes we don’t know it’s out there,” Davis said at the ceremony.

Members from the Charlotte Metro Police Department, BB&T Bank, Metrolina Real Estate Investors Association and The Home Depot were among the volunteers who assisted in the remodeling over two months.

Veterans Path Up purchased the home in March from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership. Davis plans on buying the house, said Ken Lacey, executive director of the organization, which assists veterans in getting loans backed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

This is the second home that Veteran’s Path Up has provided a veteran.

The Charlotte-based nonprofit works to provide affordable and stable housing to honorably discharged veterans and assist them on the path to homeownership.
