MPV Properties has filed a rezoning request with the city to build 400 apartments on 41 vacant acres in southwest Charlotte.
The property, which abuts the RiverGate Shopping Center, is east of South Tryon Street near Steele Creek Road and Walker Branch Drive.
MPV Properties is seeking a rezoning to urban residential with conditional uses and five-year vested rights from single-family and multifamily residential with conditional uses.
Vested rights allow projects to be completed according to land-use plans and regulations in effect when the projects were proposed or approved, without regard to any subsequent changes in land-use regulations.
In a separate petition, Real Estate Development Partners wants to develop a mixture of retail, office, and neighborhood services on the northwest corner of North Wendover Road and Ellington Street in east Charlotte. The project would include a climate-controlled storage unit.
The 10 acres have been cleared for development.
The company is seeking a rezoning to business district with conditional uses from multifamily residential. Site plans call for at least three buildings.
