Howard named city’s employee of the year

John Howard, head of the Historic District Commission, has been named the 2015 City of Charlotte Employee of the Year.

Howard has worked for the city for 16 years, according to a release from the city.

In this position Howard manages architecture standards for the six historic districts in Charlotte, which include over 3,000 properties. He reviews over 300 applications for design projects each year, according to a press release.

Since he was first hired in 2000 as an urban designer in the city’s planning department, Howard has received two other city manager’s awards for innovation and for his work on the Elizabeth Avenue Business Corridor Streetscape project.
