FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) — The Catawba Indian Nation has bought its own multi-media production company, a move that comes at a strategic time for the tribe.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports Red Heritage Media recently moved into offices in . The Catawba Indians purchased the company from Chris Cates of Charlotte and then hired Cates to run it as the rebranded Red Heritage Media.

Catawba Indian Chief Bill Harris says the purchase gives the tribe credibility as it and Studio South evaluate a partnership to build the Catawba Studios project on 124 acres of tribal land in York County. The project would be built in phases over a 10-year period.

The partners are looking for financial backers for the project, including seeking $1 million in hospitality tax revenue from York County.
