New markets tax credit workshop set for Aug. 25

CHARLOTTE – Ron Kimble, city of Charlotte assistant manager, will be among the speakers leading a free “Introductory to New Markets Tax Credit” workshop from 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 25.

The workshop, sponsored by SunTrust Bank, The Housing Partnership, Laurel Street Residential, the city, and CommunityOne Bank, will be held in the lecture hall of the UNC-Charlotte Center City building at 320 E. 9th St. in uptown Charlotte’s First Ward.

The workshop is aimed at “anyone who is seeking creative financing solutions for their community, commercial, or educational project,” according to an announcement.

“New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) program has created a buzz in the community economic development field and in the investor arena throughout the country and is often used in the development of commercial or mixed-use projects in qualifying communities,” according to the announcement.

In addition to Kimble, the scheduled presenters include representatives from various professions involved in financing development projects with federal and state tax credits.

They are Steve Ross, vice president of SunTrust Community Capital; Marshall Phillips, principal at the New York-based CohnReznick accounting firm; and Peter Duffley, an attorney at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice of Winston-Salem.
