Hendrick Construction completes 3rd restaurant in a row

For Charlotte-based Hendrick Construction, the restaurant scene is cooking.

Hendrick Construction has finished work on two eateries that opened in January. A third one the company worked on is set to open this month.

Roger Hendrick, the company’s president, said it’s a sign of slow improvement for his business.

“We’ll have done three restaurants in a row,” he said. “It’s been great. It’s kind of been a slow, steady improvement, but there are some more opportunities out there.”

Osso Restaurant & Lounge in the North Carolina Music Factory and Blackthorne in Ballantyne opened last month. Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen in 1 Bank of America Center’s Urban Garden is expected to open Monday.

Hendrick began working on the 3,000-square-foot Osso in the fall. Alex Myrick, who also owns Blue Restaurant & Bar in Uptown, owns Osso. Mistri Hardaway Architects, based in Charlotte, designed the restaurant.

Hendrick said his company’s work at Osso included refinishing 100-year-old wooden floors. The restaurant now sports cowhide on the ceiling, simulated baby crocodile leather wall coverings and a concrete gas fireplace.

Hendrick has done other work at the Music Factory, serving as the contractor for Butter NC, Small Bar, the Fillmore, The Comedy Zone and The Saloon.

“We’ve probably done a very good portion of the venues at the Music Factory as it’s grown up over the last few years,” Hendrick said.

Last summer, Hendrick began working on Blackthorne, a 3,600-square-foot American bistro-style restaurant in Ballantyne Corners Shopping Center at North Community House Road and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Tim Duffy owns the eatery, which was designed by Charlotte-based Overcash Demmitt Architects.

Hendrick said Blackthorne, which is near new Ballantyne office towers that are under construction, features a rooftop bar, custom light fixtures and booths, intricate woodworking and leather finishes.

Rooster’s, a 5,000-square-foot restaurant, is still under construction. The first floor will feature a wine bar, while the second story will house the restaurant and kitchen. The Johnson Studio of Atlanta is the architectural firm for the project.

It will be the second Rooster’s location in Charlotte. Hendrick also built the Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen in SouthPark.
