N.C. construction industry sheds 1.6 percent of workers

As in 23 other states, construction employment in North Carolina fell in November from the same month a year ago, the Associated General Contractors of America said this week.

The state saw a jobs decline of 1.6 percent, with November employment at 171,200. Over the past 12 months, the industry has shed 2,700 jobs in North Carolina, evidence that the construction market is still in a downturn.

But the report did show growth in hiring from October to November, when the state added 300 jobs, for an increase of 0.2 percent.
