West Side story: Commercial development has bypassed area, but streetcar could bring changes
Mike Griffin said he can remember a time in the city’s history when the West Side was a destination. But over the years, commercial activity in other areas of the city – and very little development in this part of town – has killed the reputation of the West Side, specifically the Freedom Drive corridor between Interstates 77 and 85, as a destination for shoppers or developers.
Higher-rise education
For the past two years, things have been looking up for upperclassmen in uptown Charlotte, where four colleges have opened new campuses and a fifth has announced plans to do the same.
