HUNTERSVILLE — The entitlement process will begin April 1 for a church’s plan to rezone a 6.8-acre tract of land at 12340 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, at Reese Boulevard, just off Interstate 77.
The Huntersville Planning Department has just scheduled the process for Calvary Church’s bid to rezone the land, which was made public in late January, according to town records.
The church wants to switch zoning codes for the parcel from a general commercial classification to a highway commercial classification, which would allow the religious institution to renovate an existing 10,052-square-foot building into a sanctuary, and to allow the planning of a future 100-space parking lot.
Henson Foley Landscape Architects drew the site plan. A general contractor has not been named.
The rezoning process is scheduled to begin on April 1 with a public hearing before the elected town Board of Commissioners. It would then move to the appointed Planning Board’s agenda for a meeting on April 23. Then the rezoning would head back to the elected officials for a final up-or-down vote on May 6.
All three meetings will be at at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall, 101 Huntersville-Concord Road.
