Morrisville-based Southern Energy Management is scheduled to start installing two arrays of solar panels this month on the roof of ‘s Baker Sports Complex.

Britt Weaver, director of commercial finance and sales at the company’s Charlotte office, which will perform the work, said the $600,000 project is being funded by the college and a North Carolina grant that is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The project calls for the installation of about 380 solar panels, which will be used to heat water for Cannon Pool and the showers in the Knobloch Tennis Center, as well as to generate electricity to meet a portion of the sports complex’s energy needs.

Weaver said the work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.
