Construction begins today on the Interstate 485/Garrison Road interchange in west Mecklenburg County.
The new Charlotte interchange, slated for completion in June, is expected to give motorists another entry point to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport and help truck traffic access a future Norfolk Southern Railway intermodal facility.
The interchange will also connect drivers with West Boulevard, which is being realigned to join Garrison Road with Steele Creek Road.
In September, Boggs Paving of Monroe won a $1.2 million contract to grade and pave access ramps at the interchange.
