MONROE– Changes are on the way to a busy Monroe intersection, thanks to a $1.3 million N.C. Department of Transportation contract recently earned by Sealand Contractors Corporation of Midland.

 The project includes these changes at the U.S. 74/U.S 601 intersection:

  • U.S. 601 North will be modified to include three left turn lanes onto U.S. 74 West;
  • U.S. 74 East will be modified to feature two thru lanes and two southbound right turn lanes onto U.S. 601;
  • The traffic signal at the intersection will be adjusted to include movements for Campus Park Drive, making this road another leg of the intersection.

The intersection’s pavement will also be milled and resurfaced with new pavement markings and markers.

The date of availability, or earliest time the contractor can begin working, is Monday, June 15. Any lane closures needed to complete the work will be limited to overnight hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The contract calls for roadwork to be complete by the end of August.
