Contract Awarded to Improve Mecklenburg County Roads

A $3.6 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation will bring improvements to several primary and secondary roads in Mecklenburg County, starting as soon as next month. 

The contract includes milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction to approximately 8.4 miles throughout the county, including sections of these primary roads: 

  • N.C. 16 (Brookshire Boulevard) between Fred D. Alexander Boulevard and the bridge over Long Creek 
  • U.S. 29 (Graham Street/Dalton Avenue) between the overpass at Music Factory Boulevard and North Tryon Street 

Segments of secondary roads to receive improvement include: 

  • Hamilton Road between Youngblood and Steele Creek roads 
  • Dalton Avenue between Statesville Avenue and Graham Street 
  • Trailer Drive/Rotary Drive from Graham Street to the end of state maintenance 
  • Graham Street between Armour Drive and Dalton Avenue 
  • University City Boulevard between Periwinkle Avenue and the I-85 overpass 

Work can start as soon as mid-March and should be completed by fall 2025.
