Plaza Midwood may soon be home to a slew of new signs. Local artists will be working with area art group and the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati for Charlotte’s version of CoSign – a creative signage project started in Ohio.

CoSign brings together local business owners, artists and professional sign fabricators to crate unique signs in designated business districts, according to a press release from ArtPop.

The project was developed by the American Sign Museum in collaboration with the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation, will be replicated in six communities across the country, including Charlotte.

The Central Avenue corridor between Pecan Avenue and The Plaza will be the focal point for the CoSign project. Locally, ArtPop is working with the support of Knight Foundation, the Plaza Midwood Merchants Group, the Charlotte chapter of AIGA Charlotte, the City of Charlotte, and members of Charlotte Center City Partners, according to the release.

“Plaza Midwood is one of Charlotte’s most iconic neighborhoods, and ArtPop in partnership with CoSign is going to bring a fresh and unique perspective to the signage in the area. This innovative project is yet another way our community promotes the local artists and businesses that make our neighborhoods thrive,” said ArtPop Founder and Executive Director Wendy Hickey in the release.
