Monroe to update ordinance, zoning map

The on Tuesday night voted to approve issuing a request for proposals for a thorough rewrite of the city’s unified development ordinance and updating the city’s zoning map. The city will spend about $200,000 in discretionary funds on hiring a consulting firm to assist in the rewrite, according to Lisa Stiwinter, Monroe planning director.

Monroe’s UDO was implemented in 2003 but no longer reflects best practices in planning and zoning, the city said. Monroe also is in the process of updating its land-use plan and is developing its first-ever transportation plan. City documents claim it is imperative for the city to update the UDO and zoning map alongside the land-use and transportation plans.
