The Charlotte division of Columbus, Ohio-based M/I Homes has begun pre-sales in Bellington, a community of 99 homes on Huntersville-Concord Road, east of I-77 at exit 23.

The road to Bellington went like this: Hopper Communities of Charlotte won a rezoning request in January 2013 from the Huntersville Board of Commissioners after reaching an agreement with protesting neighbors who nearly derailed project.

That same month, M/I lost its own lengthy Huntersville rezoning battle for its proposed Avery Park subdivision to the protests of residents of surrounding existing neighborhoods. Last June, bought out Hopper and developed Bellington.

As it happened, Avery Park and Bellington were almost exactly the same size: 42 acres, meaning M/I could keep many of Avery Park’s features.

A year after that deal was struck, M/I Homes is offering buyers pre-construction pricing in the $250,000 range for houses in Bellington. It is one of six new M/I Homes communities opening this summer in the Charlotte market.

Bellington features M/I’s two-story Traditional Collection of homes and houses in its new Cottage Collection, ranches with optional upstairs quarters for teens, guests and in-laws.

Home plans range from 2,019 to more than 4,100 square feet, with three to six bedrooms and two to 3.5 baths. The units include a two- and optional three-car garages, and HardiePlank exteriors with stone and brick accents.

M/I has opened an information center at Bellington and has two model homes under construction there: the Aberdeen ranch and the two-story Bradford.
