CHARLOTTE – City transportation and planning agencies will hold a community workshop concerning the Lynx Blue Line Extension from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Oasis Shriners Center, 604 Doug Mayes Place in the University Area.
The Charlotte Area Transit System and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department staff will provide information about the extension of the city’s light rail line. City staff will take input from the community about the University City Area Plan update, which will outline future development around the light rail stations.
The area plan input will be considered before the plan is revised and presented at a March 11 meeting, also at the Shriners Center, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. City officials will also take comments at this meeting.
The 9.3-mile light rail extension will add 11 stops to the Blue Line and will take riders from Uptown to UNCC’s campus. Of the 11 new stops, seven have had their transit station area plans approved. Only the University City Boulevard, McCullough, JW Clay Boulevard and UNC-Charlotte stations still need area plans approved, which is the purpose of the public workshops.
