Applications being accepted for positions on development-related boards

CHARLOTTE – With a new City Council taking the helm, one of its duties is to make nominations to fill positions on various council boards, and in January it will appoint three people to two boards that affect real estate and development. Applications are being accepted and the council will make the appointments at its Jan. 13 meeting.

Two positions are open on the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustments, which oversees decisions on zoning appeals and variances and provides final interpretations of the city’s zoning ordinance, according to the city website. One position open on the board will begin Jan. 31 and end Jan. 30, 2017. David Hoffman, already on the board, is eligible for reappointment. The other open position is for an alternate member of the board and that term will begin immediately after appointment and run until Jan. 30, 2015.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment requires a commitment of nine hours a month and meets the last Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, at 600 E. Fourth St.

One position is open on the , which advises City Council and the on short- and long-range land use and design plans and general planning matters including zoning, land development, transit, economic development and community facilities, according to the city’s website. Greg Phipps, who is now a City Council member, resigned his post. The term begins immediately and runs until June 30, 2015.

The Planning Commission requires 24 hours a month and meets the first Monday of each month at 12 p.m. at the Government Center.

All applicants for positions on the board must be registered voters in Mecklenburg County and will serve on a voluntary basis without compensation. All applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office no later 5 p.m. on Jan. 2.
