CORNELIUS — Cornelius Mayor Lynette Rinker said Wednesday, the day after Election Day, that she will announce Tuesday whether she will run for the N.C. General Assembly seat held by House Speaker Thom Tillis. Rinker did not run for mayoral reelection.
Current Mayor pro-tem Chuck Travis ran unopposed for the mayor’s seat being vacated by Rinker, who is weighing a bid for the state House of Representatives’ District 98 seat held by fellow Republican Tillis. Tillis has announced his 2014 candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Kay Hagan.
In the commissioners’ races, both of the incumbents seeking reelection won: Dave Gilroy and John Bradford. They will be joined on the dais at Cornelius Town Hall come December by Woody Washam Jr., Thurman Ross Jr. and Jim Duke.
In complete but unofficial results of Tuesday’s elections, voters in Cornelius OK’d three bond packages: $11.5 for road improvements, $5.25 million for parks and recreation, and $4 million for redevelopment in the Catawba Avenue-Main Street area, which could include a long-discussed community and art center.
