CHARLOTTE – Mecklenburg County has issued two building permits, valued at $9.6 million, to Jackson, Miss.-based EastGroup Properties for the construction on the shells of the first two buildings in the Steele Creek Commerce Park, at Shopton and Steele Creek roads.
According to county records, the buildings both will be 70,574 square feet. Building 1 is going up at 4724 Entrance Drive and Building 2 is being built at 8530 Steele Creek Place Drive, records show. Site work has started on the property.
Intercon Building Corp., based in Charlotte, is the general contractor working on both buildings, according to the building permits database.
EastGroup is a real estate investment trust that focuses on development, acquisition and investment in major industrial properties throughout the sun belt.
In November, EastGroup filed a rezoning petition with the city of Charlotte to allow the commerce park to be built on the site. The rezoning was granted in March, according to the city website. The rezoning petition says the commerce park could be built out to 525,000 square feet.
EastGroup didn’t return calls on Thursday, so more specific information wasn’t immediately available.
