CHARLOTTE – , the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocer that has recently entered the area, is starting construction on its Ballantyne store on March 28.

The grocery chain in September revealed plans for the Ballantyne store, which will be at 11206 Providence Road West, between Marvin and Johnston roads.

In October, Publix opened its first two area stores: one in Fort Mill and one in Indian Land. In December, the company unveiled plans for another Charlotte store, this one in South End.

Publix has also been rumored to be interested in adding stores in Cornelius, Huntersville and Mint Hill, according to officials in all three towns. Publix has remained mum on any of those potential stores.

No word was available Thursday on when the Ballantyne store would open, as Publix didn’t return calls.
