ArtPop is a nonprofit that connects artists with advertising company’s billboards and other media spaces to showcase their work in the Charlotte region. Through this ArtPop turns common areas – even interstate highways into “outdoor art galleries.” This helps promote artists but also provides the community with thought-provoking and inspirational work that everyone can enjoy – for free!
ArtPop Street Gallery received almost 200 entries for its Cities Program this year.
From those submissions, 20 artists were juried in to be part of the 2022 Cities Program. An astonishing array of artistic mediums were selected – glass, ceramics, digital art, encaustic, watercolor, fiber, paintings, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. The Class of 2022 consists of 19 adult artists and one high school senior. Artists selected reside in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, and Union counties.

In addition to this immense public exposure, artists can take Artists U classes with all their expenses paid for through a generous grant. The classes help artists build productive, balanced, and sustainable lives. ArtPop also awards each adult artist a $500 honorarium and the high school senior artist a $1,500 scholarship toward college.
The first installation of billboards will be in January.
