Statesville Planning Board recommends plans for Ingles market

Roberta Fuchs//May 25, 2016//

The Planning Board voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend that the City Council approve Ingles Markets Inc.’s site plans for a proposed 72,128-square-foot supermarket on Sullivan Road.

Ingles wants to build the supermarket on 14.3 acres slightly southwest of the interchange of Interstates 77 and 40. The property currently has three commercial structures on it that will be demolished.

The company plans to provide 239 parking spaces for the site, which will have access points at Sullivan and Free Nancy roads. Ingles will install an 8-foot buffer along the perimeter of the site. Primary material for the exterior of the market will be concrete and brick veneer, and windows and doors will be featured on at least 60 percent of the façade facing Sullivan Road.

The planning staff said design standards for nonresidential development had been met, and recommended approval of the plans.

The City Council will vote on the issue at its June 6 meeting.

Ingles, based in Asheville, has nearly 200 supermarkets in the Carolinas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.
