As the Trump Organization mulls purchasing The Point Lake and Golf Club in Mooresville, some of the club’s members hope there will be buyouts for club memberships.

On Feb. 1, Walter Stachnik, a resident of The Point, emailed club members to poll them on whether they would support giving current members “a choice to transfer their membership to the new owner (Trump) or receive a refund of their equity contributions.”

Stachnik declined to comment when contacted by The Mecklenburg Times, which obtained a copy of the email.

About 60 percent of club members are equity members — those who own property at the club. Invitational members, those who don’t live at The Point but play golf or take part in other activities, make up 23 percent, while 17 percent are “community members” who have access to club facilities but not to the golf course.

Donald Trump and his son, Eric Trump, who oversees golf course purchases for the Trump Organization, have expressed interest in the club since 2010. Last month, club members voted in a straw poll to continue negotiations with the Trump Organization, which had backed away from the deal late last year, citing infighting at the club over the proposed Trump purchase.

A decision on whether Trump will buy the course is expected at the end of February or beginning of March, Eric Trump said.
