One new home in M/I Homes‘ Laurelbrook community has an especially meaningful purpose.
Proceeds from the sale of the Sherrills Ford home will benefit Pelotonia, a leading national non-profit that funds innovative cancer research. M/I Homes of Charlotte also hosted a golf tournament in support of Pelotonia. The benefit home and golf tournament together raised $262,536.80 for the national non-profit.
A private celebration with the new homeowners and vendors who helped build the home was held on Friday, December 6. The Wilk family is expected to move in this month. “Dozens of dedicated and talented folks came together to help us make this project happen,” said George Schulmeyer, area president at M/I Homes in Charlotte. “Pelotonia is an extraordinarily successful and unique organization that is laser-focused on accelerating funding for innovative cancer research. Each one of us who brought this home to life is proud to be part of this donation and what it will accomplish.”
“Personally, I’ve been impacted by cancer with my sister,” added new homeowner Tony Wilk. “Everyone, unfortunately, at some point in their life will be personally affected or affected through family and friends, so anything that we can do to help out with that cause is just wonderful.”
M/I Homes, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, has raised more than $3 million for Pelotonia this year with the sale of benefit homes in Charlotte and 14 other markets across the U.S. A portion of each sale is donated to Pelotonia.
The funds support cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, including The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology. One hundred percent of every community-raised dollar supports research initiatives that include cancer prevention, diagnostics, and improved therapies.
In addition to this initiative, M/I Homes of Charlotte is also a strong supporter of needs at home in North Carolina. The division has donated $54,393.01 to North Carolina non-profits, including:
– The Emergency Fund of Mountain Projects (for those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina)
– Spruce Pine – UMC assistance fund for western North Carolina relief
– Alzheimer’s Association
– Thompson Child & Family Center in Charlotte
