The town of is accepting public comments on its draft Rural Area Plan through June 10.

The plan covers the town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction of nearly 3,850 mainly rural acres interspersed with large-lot subdivisions, contiguous tracts of undeveloped farmland and several public parks. Work on drafting the proposal began in October.

The town has drafted the plan, it says, because current regulations permit uncoordinated, low-density development that presents land, transportation and environmental concerns. The plan aims to provide Davidson with land-use and transportation guidelines to manage development over the next 30 years.

Residents can review the plan here and provide feedback by sending an email to [email protected].

In addition, the public is invited to attend two information sessions on the plan. A representative of plan consultant Stantec will address the town’s planning board at its 6 p.m. meeting May 23 and will review the plan with the board of commissioners at its 4 p.m. meeting June 7.

Both meetings will be held at Davidson Town Hall.
