County appoints airport commissioners, rethinks Brooklyn Village development (access required)

Despite not yet having any real authority in the city, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport advisory commission last night gained its last four members. Interim Mayor Patsy Kinsey appointed three members and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners appointed the final member, finalizing the 13-member oversight board.

Charlotte City Council Sept. 23 (access required)

The City Council on Monday took care of two business items that have stirred controversy over the past several months, among other issues. Council members were obligated to select four members to the newly formed but they yet-to-be empowered Charlotte Douglas International Airport advisory commission, and did so at Monday’s meeting. The Carolina Panthers also got a boost Monday night – following the team’s Sunday afternoon rout of the New York Giants – when council members voted to approve spending $28 million in public funds to help pay for renovations at Bank of America Stadium.

Nelson Casstevens has run his law firm out of a century-old for nearly 30 years. But the lawyer, looking to hang up his briefcase and throw out his legal pad, has found a buyer interested in his property and appears eager to sell. The buyer just isn’t interested in the house on that property, so Casstevens has filed a certificate to demolish the house.
