Northlake Mall opened in 2005 in north Charlotte, an area that seemed primed for residential growth. But just a couple of years after the mall opened, the Great Recession came on the scene. According to Andy Misiaveg, a partner in the Charlotte office of the Atlanta-based Shopping Center Group, the mall didn’t have time to solidify its tenant mix before the economy tanked.

Renovation Report: Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse (access required)

When taking the space that used to house one restaurant and turning into another restaurant, the conversion is usually straightforward. Throw in some new kitchen equipment, add a bar, update the restrooms and, voila: a new restaurant. But the process is more involved than that for Mooresville-based general contractor Spectrum Building Co. as it renovates a former O'Charley's in Huntersville to get it ready for a Duckworth's Grill & Taphouse.

Charlotte Regional Realtor Association: Area home sales up 40 percent in January

Charlotte-area home sales jumped 40 percent in January compared to the same period in 2012, while sale prices remained fairly level, the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association said Thursday. In January, there were 2,163 closings, up from 1,541 in January 2012. Average home prices last month in the Charlotte metropolitan area were $189,007, up just 0.6 percent from January 2012, when the average sale price was $187,803.
