SCORE Charlotte’s 72 Chapter Volunteers are proud to announce that in Fiscal Year 2022 they helped 252 new businesses get started within the 14 North Carolina and three South Carolina counties it represents. As a result, 688 new jobs were created according to figures provided by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, who were engaged by the SCORE Foundation to conduct research into the economic impact SCORE’s over 10,000 nationwide volunteers had on the US economy in Fiscal Year 2022.
In 2022, according to Pricewaterhouse Coopers, SCORE Charlotte’s 72 Chapter volunteers provided a total of 5,345 hours of unique mentoring sessions, inexpensive or free local business workshops and on-line seminars within the 17 counties it serves.
SCORE Charlotte was established in 1965 as the 47th Chapter of SCORE National with headquarters in Hendron, VA a suburb of Washington, D. C.
Half of SCORE Charlotte’s 72 volunteers work full-time as successful business professionals who volunteer their services with the other half retired or semi-retired. Together they represent most business disciplines which allows them to provide free and confidential business advice to entrepreneurs within in the Charlotte Region who want to start a new business or re-open or grow an existing business.
SCORE Charlotte is one of over 320 SCORE chapters nationwide with over 10,000 Certified SCORE volunteers serving clients in over 1,500 communities. Nationwide, in 2022 64% of SCORE national’s client base were women, 46% were minorities and 9% were veterans. .
Due to the coronavirus, SCORE Charlotte as well as other chapters nationwide continue to set-up remote mentoring sessions via phone, e-mail and videos such as Zoom. Brill noted that with the increased demand for our services, SCORE Charlotte is actively recruiting volunteers within the 14 North and 3 South Carolina areas it serves including Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cleveland, Cabarrus, Stanly, Lincoln, Burke, Catawba, Caldwell, Alexander, Iredell, Rowan, Union and Anson counties in North Carolina and York, Chester and Lancaster in South Carolina.
SCORE Charlotte is a resource partner of the SBA (Small Business Administration). Its offices are located within the SBA offices in Charlotte’s South Park area.
SCORE Charlotte is one of 10 national SCORE chapters located in North Carolina. Along with Charlotte, other SCORE chapters in North Carolina are located in Asheville, Cape Fear, Chapel Hill, Coastal Carolina, Greensboro-Triad area, the Outer Banks, Raleigh, Sandhills, and Western Carolina.

Other than free mentoring, SCORE Charlotte members also serve as SCORE Ambassadors and participate as speakers at business trade shows and events in the Charlotte Region. SCORE Charlotte also sponsors free and low-cost workshops such as Simple Steps for Starting Your Business throughout the year plus numerous problem-solving seminars on how to start a business or deal with business growth.
With over 58 years of service to the Charlotte Region, SCORE Charlotte was presented the North Carolina District 460 Chapter of the Year 2022 Award for The Small Business Market by SCORE National for the second consecutive year.
The award was given in recognition of the Chapter’s leadership, dedication and
commitment to serving small businesses in the Charlotte Region.
Further, the Chapter’s Public Outreach Program played a significant role in the selection of Charlotte as NC District Chapter of the Year in 2022.
“We work hard to be an active strategic partner with over 40 SCORE Ambassadors highly engaged in a diversity of community events,” Brill reported. “As a result, we are continually increasing awareness of our services and opportunities to volunteer.”
In addition to the NC District Chapter of the Year Award, SCORE Charlotte was also the recipient of the Diamond Chapter Excellence Award in 2020 in recognition of its unwavering dedication and commitment by its volunteers on behalf of the small business community.
The Diamond Award is given only to those Chapters who have attained a Platinum Award for five or more years in a row in recognition of its outstanding support of the small business community.
