NCDOT opens two new bridges in Mecklenburg County

The N.C. Department of Transportation has opened bridges on South Polk Street in Pineville and Hucks Road in north Charlotte on Nov. 15 according to a press release.

In Pineville, replacement of the South Polk Street bridge over Little Sugar Creek began in January of this year. The new bridge is wider to accommodate a third lane for left turns. In addition, it has sidewalks on both sides. The former two-lane bridge had no sidewalks.

Though a few items remain to be completed around the bridge in the upcoming weeks, the work will not require closing the roadway. In addition, there will be some night work at the intersection of Highway 51 and North Polk Street.

In north Charlotte, replacement of the Hucks Road bridge over a branch of Clark’s Creek began in June of this year. The new bridge also includes sidewalks on both sides. Minor work remains to complete the project, but it will be outside the roadway limits.
