The first home designed by architect and former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt is for sale, and will be open to prospective buyers from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
The home, at 4221 LaBrea Drive in the Hyde Park community off Beatties Ford Road, is listed for $550,000.
It’s a 4,095-square-foot split-level mid-century modern built in 1970 and designed for entertaining, both indoors and out, where there is a 1,800-square-foot patio area and fire pit.
Gantt was the first African-American architect hired by the Charlotte firm Odell, and in 1971 he founded Gantt Huberman. The Hyde Park community was one of the nation’s first upper-class neighborhoods established by African-Amercians, according to a news release from Rashad Davis, an advisor with Engel & Völkers South Charlotte, who is representing the seller.
This home is truly unique and a large part of the community’s history,” says Davis. “The significance of this property has brought new light to Hyde Park and the dream of homeownership.”
