Eclipse: Moore County rejects application for solar farm

CARTHAGE, N.C. (AP) — The Moore County commissioners have rejected an application to build a 28-acre solar farm, the first time they have done so in a county with nine other solar farms.

Local news outlets report the commissioners heard four hours of testimony on Tuesday before rejecting an application to build the facility near the community of Carthage northwest of Fayetteville.

Neighbors objected saying the solar panels would be visible from nearby properties and hurt property values. Several commissioners expressed concern the farm with more than 22,000 solar panels would not be a good fit for the area.

An engineer and a project coordinator at the Clean Technology Center at North Carolina State said the solar farm would not hurt the environment or be a health or safety hazard.
