Harrisburg Planning Board recommends rezoning for self-storage

The Harrisburg Planning Board voted 4-0 Tuesday to recommend that the town council approve a developer’s rezoning request to build a self-storage facility on 7.5 vacant acres south of N.C. Highway 49 South.

The property abuts Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and is to the east of the Roberta Road extension that is under construction.

Johnson Development Associates Inc. wants to construct several one-story buildings to the rear of a proposed Publix grocery store. Current site plans call for a total of 83,200 square feet of storage space and 17 customer parking spaces.

The company is seeking a rezoning to general commercial with conditional use from medium density residential.

The town council is scheduled to vote on the proposed rezoning at its July 11 meeting.
