Cornelius Planning Commission recommends rezoning

The Cornelius Planning Commission voted unanimously Monday to recommend that the town’s Board of Commissioners approve a rezoning petition to construct a 9,200-square-foot building on 3.5 vacant acres.

Kerry and Stefan Rathmann are requesting a conditional rezoning to build a multi-purpose venue for weddings and corporate events. The property, at 10101 Bailey Road, is zoned for industrial use.

In other action, the commission voted unanimously to recommend that the board award a conditional-use permit for the construction of a 3,610-square-foot building at 20627 N. Main St.

Oakbrooke Inc. is seeking to develop the site with a salon and additional retail and office space.

An existing single-family residence on the tract would be demolished.

The half-acre property is zoned for neighborhood mixed-use purposes.

Commissioners will vote on both projects July 18.
