Levine Children’s Hospital has seen its fair share of fundraisers, but on June 24 the medical facility will be the beneficiary of a unique event – a wiffle-ball tournament.
Levine Properties announced plans this week for “Wiffle Ball Y’all,” a wiffle-ball tournament to be held from noon-5 p.m. June 24 to benefit the hospital, according to a press release.
A wiffle-ball venue called First Ward Field is being created specifically for this event on private property owned by Levine Properties located at Eighth and Caldwell Streets.
“They say Charlotte has one of everything, why not a wiffle ball tournament for adults?” said Levine Properties President Daniel Levine in the release.
Levine said he got the idea from local wiffle-ball guru, Zach Kaytes, who will serve as tournament director.
“The immediate support we’ve received, through word of mouth alone, makes me think we can grow this event over time with more teams which means a larger donation to Levine Children’s Hospital,” Levine added.
The tournament, organized by Branstorm PR and sponsored by Charlotte Agenda, will consist of eight teams, each donating $1,500 to Levine Children’s Hospital to participate. They are Team Fahrenheit, Google Fiber, Perkins+Will, UNC Charlotte Center City, Rodgers Builders, Foundry Commercial, Cole Jenest and Stone, and Lineberger Dentistry & Orthodontics.
The event is open to spectators at no charge. Food trucks will be on site to feed participants and fans throughout the day, followed by a social from 5-8 p.m. Free parking will be provided by Levine Properties in the gravel lot across the street.
