Habitat launches Build-a-Thon in Charlotte

Nearly 200 volunteers from AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity International will build or perform critical repairs on 12 houses in the Charlotte area next week.

Some of those projects will take place in Charlotte’s Lakewood neighborhood, with Build-a-Thon workers launching construction on three homes on Jones, Kalynne and Harrison streets.

Habitat has performed extensive work in the Lakewood area northwest of uptown. The nonprofit’s Women Build division of female volunteers launched construction on three homes there this month, and plans to begin work on another two next week.

Along with additional rehab work in Charlotte, Build-a-Thon volunteers next week also will target homes in Gaston, Lincoln and York counties.
