The York County Planning Commission voted 7-1 Monday to approve a developer’s petition to rezone 37 acres for office and retail use at S.C. Highway 160 and Dave Gibson Road in Fort Mill.
Dehler Hart Springland Inc. requested a rezoning for the vacant tract to business development district from a rural development designation.
The planning staff recommended approval of the petition even though the proposed rezoning is inconsistent with the county’s comprehensive land-use plan that calls for low-density single-family residences in the area.
The staff said the 37 acres is part of a larger, 53-acre site that is currently zoned for business use. The proposed rezoning, it said, would result in development that is consistent with the remainder of the parcel.
The York County Council is scheduled to vote on the first of three readings of an rezoning ordinance at its June 6 meeting. A public hearing on the rezoning petition will take place June 20.
