CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston is holding a public hearing on the impact of new hotels in a city that attracts millions of visitors each year.
City officials are taking comments from the public Tuesday as part of a three-month study of the lodging industry and the impacts hotels have on the city’s historic district.
Several hundred new hotel rooms were added when four new hotels opened in the downtown area last year. Four additional hotels are under construction.
City figures show that plans for 11 new properties that would add more than 700 rooms have already been approved.
