Indian Trail approves age-targeted residences

The Indian Trail Town Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve Blake Communities’ rezoning request to build 49 single-family homes east of Waxhaw Indian Trail Road.

Blake Communities will target the development, which will be on 16 acres north of Blanchard Circle, to home buyers aged 55 and up. Each detached home will feature a two-car garage.

The property currently features a residence that is slated for demolition.

The Indian Trail Planning Board recommended approval of the rezoning, saying the change supported the town’s comprehensive plan calling for land-use compatibility between neighboring properties and increased housing diversity.

Blake Communities sought a rezoning to single-family with conditional uses from single-family.

The council approved the first of two readings on the rezoning petition in March.
