Cornelius Planning Board recommends mixed-use project

The Cornelius Planning Board has voted to recommend that the Board of Commissioners approve Mariner Properties’ rezoning petition for a 3-acre mixed-use project slightly north of Bailey and Statesville roads.

The company plans to add 40,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office uses in three two-story buildings. The vacant property is directly north of the developer’s Village at Oakhurst project, which features a People’s Bank, 131 Main restaurant and Cork and Cask bar.

Site plans call for 153 surface parking spaces.

Mariner Properties said it hopes to have the project completed by the second half of 2017. The city council will vote on the rezoning petition June 6.
