Some 650 Realtors will volunteer their services in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties to assist homeowners and local nonprofits with building repairs.
The April 22 event, dubbed Realtors Care Day, is an initiative of the Housing Opportunity Foundation, a branch of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association.
This year the CRRA is partnering with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership, which received a $500,000 grant from NeighborWorks America that will go toward rehabbing the historic Druid Hills neighborhood northeast of uptown. More than 150 Realtors will work with the partnership on painting and clearing debris in the area. They also will refurbish a community garden in Druid Hills Park and provide landscaping at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
Another 500 Realtors will assist 10 homeowners between Pineville and Statesville with exterior repairs and safety modifications. Volunteers also will perform site repairs at the Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen in Huntersville.
Last year, a record of more than 700 volunteer Realtors helped repair 25 homes and three nonprofit organization buildings in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties.
The Realtors Care Day program has assisted 174 homeowners since it was launched in 2009.
