Dallas man is charged in sale of slain neighbor’s home

DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas man accused of posing as his slain neighbor to sell the dead man’s home has been charged with money laundering and other counts.

Dallas Police Maj. Max Geron tells KXAS-TV that 43-year-old Christopher Brian Colbert was arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Police say the death of Colbert’s neighbor, 57-year-old Ronald Shumway, is being investigated as a homicide but that Colbert faces no charges in Shumway’s death.

Colbert is in custody pending extradition on charges of tampering with a governmental record, securing execution of a document by deception and money laundering.

The house’s new owner found Shumway’s remains in the yard in September. He had been missing for months.

Jail records don’t list an attorney to comment on Colbert’s behalf.
