U.S. Green Building Council awards scholarships

The N.C. chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council has announced the winners of the 2015 Rob Eggers Memorial Scholarship. Each recipient  receives a $2,000 scholarship to support their education in sustainability studies.

The winners are Alma Beciragic, a doctorate of philosophy candidate in  environmental science and engineering at UNC Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health; Karan Gupta, a dual master of science candidate in environmental management and forestry at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment; and Britsy Neale, a dual master candidate in environmental management and business administration at the Nicholas School of the Environment and UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan–Flagler Business School .

The council establishes the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design rating system for environmentally sustainable buildings. In North Carolina there are more than 1,800 LEED-certified buildings, over 5,700 professionals with LEED credentials and more than 300 member organizations.
