ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Officials are preparing to place a new time capsule inside Asheville’s Vance Monument, about six months after a time capsule from 1897 was discovered inside the now-empty space.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Asheville and Buncombe County officials have chosen numerous objects, including bottle caps and bumper stickers, to place inside the capsule, which is not supposed to be retrieved until 2115.
A short ceremony is scheduled to be held on Friday evening at the monument to celebrate the time capsule.
The stainless steel box that will contain the time capsule was custom built to fit into the shoebox-sized cavity at the base of the obelisk.
A duplicate set of the time capsule’s contents will be on display in the lobby of City Hall Sept. 21 through Oct. 31.
