CHARLOTTE – Souvenir hunters have flocked to Charlotte to collect a part of the city’s old coliseum.
Bojangles’ Coliseum is undergoing a $16 million renovation, and as part of that work, the arena has offered 832 of its nearly 10,000 discarded wooden seats to the public. It’s the first renovation of the arena in its 60-year history.
Demand was more than triple the supply, with 2,900 people signing up in July for seats, which were sold in sets of two and three. That meant only 374 people actually got a set of seats, which were offered last week.
One souvenir hunter drove four hours from Atlanta to be first in line. A UNC Charlotte graduate drove from Vero Beach, Florida, for his chairs.
